Extended days at Walney – supporting Key Stage 1 to 2 transition

Key features

  • Key stage 1 to 2 transition extended days
  • Low-cost day camping on local school site
  • Activities delivered by school staff

The five primary schools in the Walney partnership in Barrow-in-Furness have concentrated on developing very low-cost,  local residentials along with extended days to support the key transitions from KS1 to 2 and from KS2 to 3. This slideshow case study describes their programme of KS1 to 2 extended days, delivered in the grounds of one of the five schools.

It gives details about the programme’s aims, as well as outlining their planning and the activities delivered on-site by the school staff themselves with the pupils. It also describes their approach to reflective evaluation and ongoing plans for the future.
