The impact of a Learning Away residential on two secondary school teachers

Key features

  • Impact of residentials on staff
  • Staff-student relationships
  • Pedagogical skills

Much of the action research into the impact of the first phase of Learning Away focused on students, but as the programme developed Learning Away Coordinators and staff from school partnerships began to talk more about the impact brilliant residentials were having on them as well.

In particular, staff talked about the lasting impact of residentials on their relationships with students as well as with each other, how their confidence increased and how, as a result, they felt more able to try out new teaching styles.  In this film two secondary school teachers from The Canterbury Academy talk about the impact that taking part in large residentials integrated with the curriculum had on them.
