This five-strong partnership of primary schools has developed a progressive programme of residentials that focus on sustainability as a whole-school philosophy.
The partnership works with local provider the Minstead Study Centre to enable learning to take place about sustainability in a real-life context, starting in reception with a pre-residential visit then working up to a four-night residential by Year 5/6.
Learning from the residentials is used throughout school and family life. The schools focus on developing older children’s leadership skills to empower them as champions for change – leading sustainability initiatives in school. Gradually, the children’s values and behaviour will become shared across their whole school community.
“What the children learn during a residential will transform their day to day lives by creating a changing culture of sustainability back in school and their wider community.”
