Over the course of the first phase of Learning Away, Bulwell EAZ partnership developed a progressive student leadership model based around sports leader accreditation for students at the Bulwell Academy.

The programme starts in Key Stage 3 and supports students to develop as leaders into Key Stage 5 (and sometimes beyond). The programme trains them to support local primary pupils in various settings, including school PE lessons, sports festivals, Learning Away residentials, and extra-curricular clubs. Some students go on to gain employment with local organisations running holiday clubs, and with the Academy to help with the set up and running of their EAZ’s residential programme.
